Saturday was spent in our new favorite gem of a park, Deas Island (the same location as my previous post). We had my brother's dog Chase for the night, so he tagged along. I use the word "tag" ironically here, because at one point he decided to get free from his leash and test my patience a little lot. Trying to coax him back to me proved a little challenging, especially when he realized how much faster he was. Oh well, I was due for a little dose of humiliation anyway. ^_^

I've managed to snag a few beautiful dresses at thrift and vintage stores lately and I must say, it's difficult to reel myself in when it comes to flowy dresses. I find that most of my practical, day-to-day outfits are relatively tomboy-inspired, especially when dressing for my coffee shop job. But when it comes to wandering in fields and gathering buttercups... a flowy dress just beats all.

The other day my Momma and I went to check out a potential wedding venue at a nearby park. Jb and I had already been there briefly, but this trip was dedicated to exploring the various nooks and crannies of the park... and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! There were plenty of beautiful paths, big open fields, riverside look out points and sneaky marshes to explore. Plus, a beautiful schoolhouse with the perfect forest glade behind it... I think we've found a winner! I love how lush the photos turned out.

Have you found any new forest-y nooks lately?

A lot of my outfits of late have been inspired by gardening. Floral prints mixed with worn denims, huge tote bags and big straw hats. Truth be told, I often think of a young Ruth Fisher (played by Frances Conroy) when putting together my summer looks. (On a side note, she is BY FAR my favorite television character ever. Definitely check out Six Feet Under!). The mixture of lush green leaves, bright flowers and all the planting we've been doing has definitely been informing my style lately! And I'm definitely not the only one - I've seen lots of beautiful babelets rocking the floral prints around town. Ahhh I love summer styles!

siri's hats.

*All photos are from Siri's blog.

I have been totally inspired by Siri's use of hats (and by her photography, hair, sense of humour and many of her other characteristics! ^_^ Definitely check out her lovely blog...). Given the AMAZING weather we've been having in Vancouver (knock on wood), I'll definitely be breaking out some hat photos soon. Stay tuned!

Being super broke lately has necessitated a lot of cheap activities: bike rides, picnics, makin lemonaide, hikes, and gardening with my awesome pals (like the amazing Georgia, in the first two photos!). After a lot of whining, I've come to realize that being temporarily broke can be a great way to reassess my daily habits. I don't need to eat out that much, and chill out on the thrifting. There's plenty of treasures out there that I don't need to buy. Want a coffee every day? MAKE IT AT HOME. Etc, etc.

Also I'm really fortunate that my brokeness is indeed temporary, as I have a relatively ok-paying job, an awesome partner who helps me pay for things, and student loans for when I'm in school again. I don't accredit any of this to my amazing, driven work ethic or anything, but to the fact that I've been born into white, middle-class privilege in a country with a lot of resources. Needless to say, there are still a lot of things wrong with my situation (namely the fact that my tuition and rent cost SO much, when they really shouldn't). But that's another story, and more than a few blog posts. For now, I'm enjoying the frugal activities and cheap buddytime with my pals.

Stay well everyone!

super moon.

climb to the moon 2

who knows if the moon’s
a balloon, coming out of a keen city
in the sky—filled with pretty people?
(and if you and i should

get into it,if they
should take me and take you into their balloon,
why then
we’d go up higher with all the pretty people

than houses and steeples and clouds:
go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
city which nobody’s ever visited,where

always
            it’s
                   Spring)and everyone’s
in love and flowers pick themselves
