A little antique hunting is so good for the soul. I love finding items people treasured at one point but that now have totally different connotations: floor-length velvet housecoats, poodle figurines, bedazzled sunglasses... but my favorite part of antique fairs is finding those hidden gems that people thought would never be treasured, like that incredible arithmetic text book. I often wonder if any of my possessions will end up in a similar fair 100 years down the road, and if so, which items will bring smiles, gasps or feelings of wonder?

Mmm I have been majorly loving paisley lately. And there is so much of it lying around in thrift stores! Today's outfit was definitely inspired by paisley lovers Jennifer and Kennedy.

Taking some outfit shots is one of my favorite ways to avoid studying, ha. I wore this little number to a local coffee shop for some exam-cram. It's been a beautiful spring so far in Vancouver, which is rare (don't worry, I'm knocking on wood as I type this...). A few lovely things that have happened recently, other than the obvious: we found the perfect antique coffee table at a junk shop for $30 and we may have already found a wicked wedding venue! (More info to come.) I have a sneaking suspicion that this summer is going to be rad...

PS can you tell I'm trying to stay annoyingly positive while exams are happening...? O_O

engaged!

Yipee! I'm so happy to announce that after four years of living, learning and nerding out together Jb and I have decided to make a lifelong commitment to each other! We decided this weekend, after many discussions about the marriage, how we feel about it and how we would like to do it as a couple. It ended up being a beautifully egalitarian decision: we sat in our favorite cafe and explored the many ways our commitment could be expressed, finally deciding to take on the "formal" title of "engaged" and telling our family and friends about our decision. It was such a joy to shine up my grandma's beautiful engagement ring, hit the town and share our news with everyone!

It was also so exciting to have an actual discussion about our plans for marriage, rather than focusing on the expectation of an epic romantic gesture behind the decision. We talked about how we would like our wedding (and marriage) will be intentionally non-traditional, specifically with regards to embodying a more equal partnership rather than one that places the wife (i.e. me!) in a disempowered, "secondary" position and the husband in a position of economic or relational authority. We can and do see ourselves as equal partners which, to me, is very hopeful and exciting! We also briefly talked about outdoor weddings, bbq's, and summer celebrations (i.e. summer 2013, not this summer)... so stay tuned!

I can't wait to share more details with you all as they unfold! Thanks to everyone for putting up with our mushy nerdiness over the past few years, you can expect quite a bit more from here on in! ^_^

After a lovely little suburban thrifting adventure yesterday Jb and I decided to hide from the rain in my favorite Steveston coffee shop, Rocanini. While we were thrifting we found a sweet 1950's edition Scrabble game, which went perfectly with our coffee and chocolates. It was a drama filled game though - Jb tried to play the name of some machine gun ("Uzi"???) which was totally not allowed. It's a brand name, and the name of the inventor! So then I rebuttled by trying to argue that "Peggs" was a word... needless to say, we kind of bent the rules a bit. O_O

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend! School has been absolutely ridiculous lately, but I only have 19 days left! Then glorious summery goodness, and lots more posting. ^_^

xoxo.
