Phew, it's been a while since my last post! School has been absolutely bonkers lately. But luckily I got some time away to check out the Museum of Anthropology with Jb recently. I must admit, it was pretty awe-inspiring. Lots of amazing artifacts from around the world and many from different First Nations communities in or around Vancouver, such as the Musqueam and Coast Salish nations.

It was pretty amazing to see all of these artefacts, but I must admit at times I felt conflicted about being able to passively view all of these sometimes sacred items without having any cultural tie to them. The museum was pretty good about describing where the items came from, what their cultural significance was and how they came to be in the possession of the museum... but I remember walking by a few religious or burial items and feeling like I was intruding (especially given Canada's horrible history of residential schools and other forms of colonial oppression and cultural exploitation). It's a fine balance, I suppose. It was great to see some marginalized art forms, like the Coast Salish tapestry weaving (seen in image 2), were getting some much needed praise and recognition. What are your thoughts about these kinds of museum exhibits, readers?

Well, I'm off to nurse a cold and write a few more papers...  :S

happy international women's day!

In honour of my favorite day of the year, I thought I'd do a little post about some of my favorite lady bloggers out there! Here they are in no particular order:

If there was one bloggy babe whose closet I could raid it would definitely have to be the lovely Isla of A Fine Day for Sailing! I mean LOOK AT THAT TURTLENECK. Totally speaking my language. Plus Isla is just the nicest, most down-to-earth babely babe there is. One day I'll make it out to San Fran and meet her for realsies!

You've probably seen this beauty-babe around LHV once or twice! Lydia from Style is Style is my Vancouver bloggy buddy and I love her to bits. Her incredibly creative and joyous style is constantly inspiring to me, especially her epic use of colour and pretty tights! Plus this gal has some seriously rad things to say. She's the real deal!

Ohhhh Anjaaaa! This rad lady was the first blogger I EVER MET and boy did she set the bar. Not only is her blog, Clever Nettle, chalk full of rad photography and inspirational stylez but she recently started making her own designs called ANN-YA and holy eff they're fantasmical. Every time Anja comes to town my heart skips a beat. Total girl crush! Can't wait to hang out in Portland with this lady!

Last but certainly not least, the dynamic duo Annalise and Jenny from Hummingbird Girls! Their blog is such a huge source of inspiration for me for so many reasons: I love the awesome sense of community and girl-love their blog fosters, as well as their incredibly lovely photography and RAD styles. Plus Annalise sent me the most magical care package last fall that pretty much made my life. HEART EXPLOSION!!!

By the way, it was SUPER hard to narrow this post down to just four picks, so for more amazing lady bloggers check out my blogroll column on the right hand side!

Hope you all had a fantastic International Women's Day! Remember to love the ladies in your life.... ^_^

For those of you who follow me on twitter, you'll know that I modeled in a lil' shindig the Gypsy Market people put on to promote Vancouver vintage shops and designers. It was such a cool opportunity to get to know some of fantastic ladies and gents! It was such a pleasure to be modeling for The Fair, Starfish and Rose, and Aggi - they were such dolls.

The show ended up being a bit crazy (unfortunately Sweet Marie and The Fair's time was cut short/missed entirely!) but we took some great pictures with everyone so all was not lost. I definitely recommend checking out the next Gypsy Market on March 18th at the Biltmore! They always have such rad finds.

More outfit posts to come soon!

xoxo.

new sponsor: pulp vintage!

Oooo I love me a good vintage Etsy shop, and Pulp Vintage definitely fits the bill! Lovely selections from a range of eras and all super reasonably priced. How about that sweet little nautical sweater? And those polka dot harem pants! FANTASMICAL. (Feel free to click on the images to see their Etsy listings.) I really like these lovely ladies' aesthetics: a mixture of preppy mom-style from the 60's-70's and with fun and comfy 90's items thrown in there.

PLUS, returning customers always receive 10% off! Just message the ladies prior to purchase for the code.

Stay tuned for some exciting giveaways!

xoxo.
