underground thrifting.

one of the cool things about working in a cafe is that you get to chat with interesting people. and sometimes those interesting people bring you interesting gifts that may or may not include an invitation into the world of UNDERGROUND VINTAGE SHOPPING.

i'm serious. it began when one of our lovely regulars told me one day that a bunch of ladies would be meeting in an undisclosed location on the downtown eastside to sell their clothes and that i should come by. i didn't know what to expect, but the hunt was calling so i said i'd love to come. apparently this sale happens every month or so but you can only be invited via a closed event on facebook. i was intrigued (and somewhat giddy). i went to this random address (without my camera, curses!) only to find what appeared to be Vancouver's entire population of vintage-loving hipsters (i describe myself as this too, don't worry) selling their fantastic clothes out of suitcases and beat up roller-racks. i wish you could've seen the loveliness. prices weren't bad either so i snagged this vest as well as a romper, a floral blouse and an amazing beaded necklace.

...when i asked what looked like the ringleader (impeccably dressed older lady with a superbun and a wicked fur shawl) where/when it would be happening next she said with a knowing smile: "we never really know... you just have to keep your head to the ground i guess." sigh. fleeting glory.
